Hezekiah was a good king of Judah, a faithful believer in Jehovah. He did right in the sight of the Lord (II Chron. 29:2). For instance, he courageously withstood Sennacherib, king of Assyria, who threatened an ambush on Jerusalem (II Chron. 32:1-23). Half-way into his reign he was sick unto death, yet the Lord healed him. But he was lifted up in pride, yet he humbled himself for the pride of his heart (II Chron. 32:24-25).
Afterwards, an entourage from Babylon came to enquire of the wonder done in the land. The Bible says, “God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart” (II Chron. 32:31). What was in Hezekiah’s heart came out (II Kings 20:12-19; Is. 39:1-8).
What is in your heart? When God takes the lid off of our heart, so to speak, to allow the evils of our flesh to rise, we see the corruption of our flesh. Just what is in our heart? How bad is it? Jeremiah said that the heart is deceitful above all and desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9). God will try us in order to purify us. When the Lord shows you a personal problem through His Word, confess it and forsake it. Purify your heart and serve the Lord.
