It's All the Lord's

All things belong to the Lord. Psalm 24:1 tells us, “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” The Lord owns us; He created us and sustains us. Someday He will redeem the earth. Because everything belongs to God, we are to worship Him.

Believers belong to the Lord. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice” (Jn. 10:27). We are the sheep of His pasture (Ps. 100:3). Paul wrote in I Corinthians 6:19-20 that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost and that we are not our own. “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” We became the Lord’s sheep through the sacrifice and shed blood of the Shepherd. Because we belong to God, we are to glorify Him with our entire being—inside and out.

The church belongs to the Lord. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus told His disciples, “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The church is the Lord’s possession. Christ heads the church. He purchased it with His own blood. Therefore, we function the way Christ commands. We don’t act on our own; we don’t get out in front of Him; we don’t behave in a way that would rob Him of glory. In all things, we follow our Head and love Him. He is our Lord, and unto Him glory is to be given in the church.

The Apostle Paul struggled with a “ thorn in the flesh ” for quite some time. Some think the “thorn” was an oozing eye problem, but Paul calls it “ the messenger of Satan to buffet me ” (II Cor. 12:7)

Christ the King

The birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew, begins with a genealogy. Often genealogies in the Bible get overlooked because the list of names is (by and large) unfamiliar and seemingly insignificant.
